How Much Can You Win Playing Blackjack?

When you begin to think about gambling, whether in a casino or online, one of the things you are likely to be most concerned with is how likely you are to win, and how much you can win. Some games, like progressive slots, can offer jackpots of millions and you can have the same chance as anyone else to win them with just a small stake. This appeals to a certain kind of gambler who is concerned with the chance to get one of those big, life changing wins. There are also games like poker where you can sometimes win a lot of money, but can match the stakes you are playing for to your skill level and the amount you are comfortable betting with, so you can play at more modest levels.

With blackjack, you have a very good chance to win any given hand compared with other casino games. It offers the smallest house edge of any other casino game, except for certain bets in craps, and this means you will, if you follow basic strategy, win a decent percentage of the hands you play. However, because wins are not rare, you don’t win big money – your winnings are directly proportional to your stake too, like in any other odds based type of betting, so you can’t win millions out of betting just a few dollars here and there.

That is not to say that people don’t make a decent profit out of being good blackjack players. Blackjack is very much a game of chance, however knowing strategy and also being good at the money management side of planning and managing your playing sessions (essentially, knowing how much profit or loss to accept before you end the session, and how much bankroll you need to support the length of session you want to play), you can give yourself a much better chance to come out of a session on top. Remember that this is the goal, rather than winning any given hand.

Remember also that slight variations to the rules offered by different casinos, for example whether they play with one deck or a ‘shoe’ (multiple decks), whether you can double after a split, and what the dealer has to stand on, all slightly affect probability, and you should also look for games with rules that offer you the least house edge.
